It’s That Time of Year

When it comes to the farm, spring and summer are about planting and harvesting tomatoes. The six-inch plants are put in the ground in March or April, depending on the weather, and by July or August, those small plants have grown into two foot vines covered in organic tomatoes. You can see how quickly they grow, and since no spray is used to kill weeds, the hoeing crew keeps busy most of the summer. My family grows tomatoes for the cannery that produces organic tomato juice, soup, sauce and canned tomatoes, just what you need for that special spaghetti sauce of yours.
